Cheap Cremation Urns

Even when a loved one dies and we want to give their memory only the best, we have to watch our budget. At a time like this the decision between a lavish farewell and one that we can really afford can be an agonizing one. While we always welcome a sale or a bargain in our everyday lives, it is more difficult to make the choice in those crucial junctures in life. Should we throw caution to the winds and go all out or should we save money wherever we can? If we can save some money by only considering cheap cremation urns, for example, would this be the wise thing to do?

In order to make the best decision at emotionally charged times, it's best to stand back and look at the situation as rationally as possible. First consider your budget, just as you would if you were deciding whether or not to throw a lavish party. If you had the means, you might have a catered party at a resort, but you don't, so you have the party at your home. While you would like to invite a hundred guests, you can really only afford to invite a fraction of that number.

Now translate this to the whole cremation process. The cremation itself is a necessary expense, but what happens after that is entirely up to you. If you wish, you can keep the cremated remains in the cheap plastic or cardboard container the crematory provides as part of its service. If you prefer, you can buy an expensive urn from the crematory or you can go online and see if you can find cheap cremation urns that will serve your purposes. When you look online, these are some of the options you will find:

Full Price Cremation Urns

Cremation urns and keepsakes online are retail businesses like any other. As with any business, they will have as wide a selection as possible on offer, at all prices and to suit all tastes. The cheapest undiscounted cremation containers are usually the lovely biodegradable cardboard "pillows" or "boats" that are designed to float on the water and then dissolve. Even these cost $50 or more, depending on the size and quality. The most expensive urns and cremation boxes can easily cost $500 or more. These are beautiful hand-crafted urns that may be made from exotic timber, ceramic, brass or a combination of fine materials.

When you spend some time looking for an urn, you will no doubt find several that you would love to buy. If you have decided to store the ashes of the deceased in a columbarium, for example, you will find dozens of rectangular boxes designed specifically to fit into a columbarium niche. However, even a pine box can cost over $300. You are already paying for the columbarium niche. Is it worth it to buy a box for that much money that most likely will never be seen again after the ceremony?

Cheap Cremation Urns

Some of the websites you look at will have a selection of cheap cremation urns on sale alongside of their regular stock. Have a look at what's on sale at these websites. They may have exactly what you want, but usually it will be an item that they haven't been able to sell for a good reason - it's not very appealing. Compare its price with an urn that you really wanted and you will probably find that the difference is minimal.

Other websites promote their business as "cheap cremation urns." You may find as wide a selection on these sites as on other urns for cremation websites. Don't take their word for it, though. Find a few urns you like and then do a price comparison on other websites. You may find that these cheap containers aren't that much cheaper, after all, or that the company cuts corners on other services, like guarantees and delivery.

Making Your Decision

After you have gathered a selection of prices of your preferred cremation containers and cheap cremation urns, you will probably find that, within reason, the price differential is not that great.

Now add that to the other expenses involved in the cremation and funeral process and the total price difference will probably be less than 10%. It may amount to far less than that if you are planning to have a full funeral service.

Long after the ceremony is over, the container you choose will remain. It will be your most tangible reminder of your loved one's presence. Even if the urn is housed in a columbarium, is buried in a cemetery or even dissolves at sea, it will represent the last visible memory you have of them. If it is displayed in the home, it will constantly remind you of them.

In the long run, the few dollars more you spend on a cremation urn that speaks to your heart is a few dollars well spent. By all means, get the best deal you can, but don't settle on cheap cremation urns just because they are cheap. Choose one that respects both the deceased and your memories of them. This is a decision you can happily live with for the rest of your life.
